A Communion Meditation Based on Psalm 136 (Sept-Dec 2003)

By Matt Dabbs

By Vicki Meekins

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.
His love endures forever.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.”
to him who struck down the firstborn of Egypt
to him who gave the firstborn of creation
His love endures forever.

to him who accepted the blood of a lamb
to him who sacrificed the Lamb of God
His love endures forever.

To him who decreed bread made without leaven
to him who broke the Bread of Life
His love endures forever.

To him who watched blood drip from the hyssop
to him who saw blood flow from the thorns
His love endures forever.

To him who gave rise to loud wailing in Egypt
to him who heard the death cry of his one and only Son.
His love endures forever.

To him who granted his children the plunder of Egypt
to him who promised his friends the gift of the Spirit
His love endures forever.

To him who humbled the exalted Pharaoh
to him who exalted his humble Son
His love endures forever.

To him who made a distinction between Egypt and Israel
to him who unified the Jew and the Gentile
His love endures forever.

to him who commanded his children to flee
to him who surrendered his Son to stay
His love endures forever.

To him who passed over the homes of those he loved
to him who covers over the sins of all who ask
His love endures forever.

“Give thanks to the God of heaven.
His love endures forever.”
