Book Review: A Still & Quiet Soul (Sept 2012)
By Matt Dabbs
By Paula Harrington
In a world shaped by schedules and stressors, Cathy Messecar’s new book, A Still & Quiet Soul, offers a look at what really matters and how to put it all back into perspective. Messecar delves into our frantic lifestyles with grace and offers insight for living a peaceful, contended life.
Twelve chapters explore why we so often fail to live contented lives and gives simple, Biblical advice for getting on the right track. The book would make an excellent Bible class or small group study. Broken down into easy-to-read sections each chapter also offers personal stories from friends, short devotionals for personal or group settings, and discussion questions. Although this book may have been intended for a women’s group, women and men will gain understanding and encouragement for growing closer to Christ.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I could ever find the time to read it but once I got started, I couldn’t put it down. It was exactly what I needed. Do yourself a favor: get this book, grab a pen, make notes in the margins as you read, and get on your way to a life of contentment.
